The Mediterranean is a fantastic destination for eating local, fresh and delicious seasonal fruit and vegetables. We are lucky enough to be located in a part of the world with plenty of sun, fertile soil and a great environment for growing local produce. Compared to many parts of Europe, the production of organic fruit and vegetables on the island is not very extensive, there are no large volume factory farms. However, there are many small-scale farms producing fruit and vegetables to supply local markets, supermarkets and hotels, restaurants etc.
The taste and texture of our local fruit, vegetables, nuts, lentils, wheat and more are exceptional. Which is why we usually run out of this local produce very quickly on the island!
If you’re looking to buy locally, there are a vast amount of food markets all across the island and many larger-scale supermarkets have a local fruit and vegetable section too (For instance, Lidl). But how do we know which fruit and vegetables are available in which season?
