This week we got to talk to Magali & Isma, the founders of Mukka Coffee in Palma. This 100% vegan and also gluten-free cafe serves breakfast, lunch, brunch and delicious treats and snacks in their modern cafe in the heart of the old town. Let’s see what they have to say…

Tell us a bit about Mukka Coffee

We own a small coffee/brunch spot in the centre of Palma de Mallorca. We serve breakfast and lunch all day (pancakes, vegan eggs, sandwiches, cakes, etc.) Everything is vegan and also gluten free.

What makes Mallorca a special place for vegans?

Mallorca has a lot of vegan/vegan-friendly places to eat and even to sleep. It’s quite an international island which brings a lot of influences from other countries and helps the vegan community to keep growing.

How long have you been vegan and what made you decide?

We have been vegan for about 2 years now. After watched some documentaries like ‘What The Health’ and after watching it we decided to immediately go vegan. We took all the non vegan food that we had left at home and we gave it to a friend and since then we’ve been vegan.

Tell us your signature dish

Our vegan fried eggs. Probably because it’s something new that no other cafés are offering. We offer them on avocado toast, on a sandwich, with pancakes or with spinach and cream.

What is your favourite ingredient from Mallorca?

All the organic fruits and vegetables you can find on the island.

What’s the proudest moment of your career?

We only started less than one year ago, but probably the fact that a vegan chef loves our food and café is one of the things we are very proud of.

Do you have any advice for someone who wants to open a vegan business in Mallorca?

You can’t be the perfect place for everyone, there will be people that are not open for a vegan place, but that’s okay! There will be a lot of people that will.

Do you think the vegan community is growing in Mallorca?

Mallorca is a very vegan friendly place compared to other places in Spain and it’s definitely growing. More and more people become more conscious about animal abuse, the environment, etc. Maybe they won’t all go vegan from one day to another as we did, but people start to make small changes and that’s a good thing.
