Temple Natura is what we like to call a secret garden; a traditional Mallorquín patio hidden away from the city streets. Temple Natura is a vegan/vegetarian restaurant attached to a bio shop right next door. They also host private events, expositions and yoga and pilates classes. It’s one of our favourite vegan places in Palma and we’re delighted to interview Alejandro to find out more about how it all began for Temple Natura.
How did you discover Mallorca?
Me and my brother came to the island together with our mother, Maria 23 years ago out of love. She married a Mallorquín and never looked back.
Tell us about Temple Natura
Our mother is an agricultural engineer and 12 years ago she decided to train to be a herbalist. She has always been inspired by conscious and quality food and that’s why shortly afterwards she decided to expand the concept into creating the restaurant Temple Natura.
What makes Mallorca a unique place for vegans?
It has to be because of its bio cultural diversity, the warm climate and its geolocation.
What is your signature dish and why?
I would say that all of our dishes are delicious of course, but if I have to choose one I go for our homemade vegan burger because it’s luscious and a very popular dish in the restaurant.
What is your favourite local ingredient from Mallorca?
Well it would have to be Mallorca’s treasure; Olive oil.
If you had to share some advice for anyone thinking to start a vegan business in Mallorca, what would it be?
I would say to be brave and explore their creativity, to use local and seasonal resources…
How do you see the future of veganism in Mallorca?
Yes I do think veganism is growing on the island. Fortunately, Mallorca has a lot of influence from other countries where veganism has been very present for a long time. I see that the new generations of Mallorquíns are very connected to veganism, which is why I predict a good future for it.
