Telepizza Launch Vegan Pizza Range

Telepizza las veguis vegan pizza

For those of you who love pizza, you’ll definitely have heard of the famous Spanish Pizza giant Telepizza. Competing with the American chain Dominos, Telepizza is often the preferred choice among locals. Telepizza has been the first of the two multi-nationals to launch a new vegan pizza range across Spain!

At the end of January 2021, Telepizza released “Las Veguis”; a new line-up of vegan products with the same taste and quality. The new menu contains vegan nuggets and three vegan pizzas: Telepizza Montaña Vegui, Telepizza Barbacoa Vegui and Telepizza Campesina Vegui. All 3 pizzas contain 100% plant-based ingredients, including renowned cheese substitute Violife and The Vegetarian Butcher’s NoPollo and NoPicada made with non-GMO soya. Note, these products are delivered in their own packaging and properly sealed to prevent cross-contamination between vegan and meat foods.

The Balearics had the highest amount of vegan pizza orders

The reception for the new vegan pizza range has been positive. In the Balearics, Barbacoa Vegui (Nopicada) was most popular, followed by Montana Vegui which contains NoPollo (our personal favourite).

Telepizza analysed their “Las Veguis” sales in its first month after launch. The Balearics is the autonomous community with the highest number of requests for “Las Veguis”, with 9.04% of orders. The second highest was the Canary Islands with 8.45% of overall orders. This may be linked to a larger amount of German and British communities in these regions, who are more likely to be vegan or vegetarian. In the UK, 12% of adults and 20% of young people aged 16-24 are vegetarian or vegan. In Germany, vegan products increased by 1800% between 2011 and 2015, according to the same study.

Veganism continues to grow in Spain

The coronavirus has caused higher concerns for animal welfare and climate change over the past year. This has encouraged more people to choose vegan, flexitarian and vegetarian diets. 7.8% of the adult population(or one in ten women) are veggie in Spain, according to “The Green Revolution” study by Latern.

When we ordered ‘Las Veguis’ at telepizza, we noticed a number of people ordering who were not vegan or vegetarian. This is really exciting for us, as we believe popular fast-food chains like Telepizza are the future. They can help to show the world that a vegan diet is possible, affordable and of course, delicious!
